What is EMWSL’s mission?
To promote soccer for life.

What are the soccer seasons?
EMWSL soccer seasons are Fall starting in September, Spring starting in April, and Summer, starting in June.

When does registration open and close?
Registration is open all the time…but placement on teams of any current season closes 1 month after games begin for that given season.

What is the age requirement?
Players must be 17 years old to play. Teams may only have 3 players who are age 17 years old at one time.

What are the costs?
Team costs vary based on total field, equipment, referee, and coaching costs. Team leaders are responsible for managing team costs. To play in the EMWSL league, you must also register with Mass Soccer ($30/2 yr). Click here for instructions. This is required because Mass Soccer is our parent organization with whom we are insured with.  No one can play without being registered with Mass Soccer. Currently, new players that are 18-23 can register for Mass Soccer the first year for $0. How do I pay?
Team Managers manage how fees are collected and paid. Team managers are responsible for paying the team league fee before each season for their team.

How do I get on a team?
Fill out the EMWSL I Want To Play questionnaire here. The divisions you select as your preferred level of play will receive your information, and if they need players, will contact you. You are also welcome to contact team leaders directly. If you are curious what the level of play is like in the different divisions, we encourage you to go and check out games.  New players are always welcome, and most people who sign up and are serious about committing to play, receive offers to join a team. 

Can I form my own team?
New teams are always welcome. More info on this can be found here.

How long are games?
Each game is 90 minutes long:  two 45 minute halves with a 10 minute half time.

How many players are there on a team/roster?
Roster size varies from team to team, and the range currently is as low as 15 active players with a maximum roster size of 30 active players.

How many players play during a game?
Games are 11 v 11.

What equipment do I need as a player for games?
Players need shin guards, cleats (no metal), soccer socks, and 2 jerseys, away and home. No jewelry may be worn during games, none. Please remove all rings, earrings, piercings, cuffs etc.

How do I find a field?

What rules do we play by?
EMWSL rules may be found here. We are part of Mass Soccer, US Soccer, and FIFA.

Is there a referee for games?
EMWSL works with US Officials and schedules a referee for every game.

Does EMWSL play in tournaments?
Teams that play in EMWSL register for tournaments locally and nationally, and have had great success.

May teams have sponsors to offset costs or equipment?
Yes. You can take a look through team pages to see sponsors.

What are the benefits of joining EMWSL?
Friendly competition; camaraderie; increase in cognitive brain function; helps reduce anxiety; and is FUN!

What if I don’t think I have the time, or I am too busy?
When considering signing on with a team, be transparent about your level of commitment. Most teams want players who can commit to 75% to as close to 100% of games as possible. The more a team plays together, the more fun games are.

I'm a couch potato. I don't think I'm in good enough shape to play soccer. What do you think?
Put down the remote and get ready because EMWSL is just what you need! Soccer is a great way to get in shape. The league enjoys free substitution - so if you get winded you can come off the field for a break.
